MEDICAL INTERPRETER – Bani Walid - Doctors without borders
JOB VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MEDICAL INTERPRETER Project based in Bani Walid Fixed Term contract 3 months starting As soon as possible Main Purpose Verbal interpretation, in person or remotely, during daily medical activities (consultations, interviews, meetings, etc.) and written translations, from the mission language to local language(s) or vice versa, in order to ensure accurate, respectful, fluent and confidential communication between medical staff and local population. Main Accountabilities • Perform medical interpretation (French to Arabic or Arabic to English) for the medical team during MSF activities in Bani Walid and other required locations. • Provide face to face interpreting, as well as during telephone and radio call or other telecom devices, when necessary. • Inform medical staff about any local customs, traditions, important cultural nuances that will help to understand better the context during a meeting, medical consultation or interview with local people or detainees. • Translate MSF internal/external documents into local language as requested. • Keep record of all translated document • Respect the legal and moral obligation (privacy, confidentiality and consent) while working with the medical team. • Assisting the medical team with the patient’s health education sessions and health promotion if required. • Support good collaboration with other actors, authorities, military factions and MSF staff participating in the communication. • Attend medical meetings and participate in the relevant discussions. Education
Essential secondary education, university degree desirable, health knowledge advisable.
Experience
Not essential but highly desirable if previous experience working in health care facility or with medical organization.
