Social Worker – Libya

Job Title: Social Worker

Duty station: Ajdabiya – Libya

Type of Contract: Full Time.

Reporting to: Activity Coordinator (functional) and Protection Officer/Protection Coordinator and Education Officer/Specialist (technical)

General context of the project

INTERSOS is an Italian humanitarian organization that aims to provide immediate response, protection and durable solutions to populations affected by humanitarian crises, assisting the most vulnerable groups.

In Libya INTERSOS is active since 2018, operating in 3 bases, across West, East and South. INTERSOS in Libya aims to alleviate suffering of the most vulnerable population groups in Libya, in particular with a focus on access to essential services and strengthen capacity of local authorities, local organizations and communities to prevent and mitigate the effects of the protracted crisis in Libya, developing a protection conducive environment and enhancing community resilience, with programs focused on Education, Protection, Health, WASH/public works and Livelihoods/Food Security.​

Purpose / Objectives:

S/he will be responsible for the implementation of the Psycho-Social Support (PSS) and educational
activities for children and for the organization of awareness sessions on Child Protection for children
and parents at INTERSOS community centre (CC) and outreach where relevant.
Responsibilities/duties:
 Guarantee the implementation of the planned PSS activities for children;
 Plan, organize and animate the daily play time (recreational activities) which include different type
of play (creative, imaginative, physical, and communicative) to ensure children have access to an
appropriate broad range of possibilities;
 Conducting non-formal education activities that may include literacy, numeracy and language;
 Identify during collective PSS and education activities any child(ren) that might be in need of
further assistance and inform the Activity Coordinator in order to support with appropriate referrals
(internal and/or external) and ensure follow-up;
 Ensure continuous collection and consideration of beneficiary feedback, through focus group
discussions and beneficiary satisfaction surveys, to improve future programming and improve
accountability of the overall mission;
 S/he will be responsible for the follow up exercise of those supported through the action, and the
update of the related database;
 Provide daily updates and reporting – daily/weekly and monthly/per cycle, to the Activity
Coordinator and relevant technical focal points;
Other responsibilities:
 Ensure continuous clear communication to all beneficiaries on the use and purpose of
INTERSOS’ CFM/CRM and INTERSOS service hotlines (posters, one on one explanation,
etc.)
 Commit to participate to any other task in order to achieve INTERSOS’ overall objectives.
 Always ensure confidentiality and conduct all activities respectfully and sensitively to
beneficiaries and staff; including ensuring strict data protection.
 Adherence to Humanitarian principles of Neutrality, Impartiality, Independence, and Humanity
 Clear & timely communications to line management
 Full abiding by INTERSOS internal rules and guidelines and respect INTERSOS Charter of
Value and Code of Ethics.
Qualification/level requirements

Minimum requirements
 Hold an BA in social sciences or other relevant fields
 At least 1 years of professional experience working as a social worker in Libya
 Prior experience working within humanitarian/development sector, with CSO or INGO will be
an asset
 Familiarity with protection and/or education programmes
 Good computer skills (proven computer literacy);
 Strong understanding of humanitarian principles and protection guidelines.
 Flexibility in working hours with a solution-oriented approach.
 Knowledge of the area of responsibility;
 Native Arabic – good written and spoken English;
Other requirements:
 Readiness to commit and adhere to the values, mission and vision of INTERSOS;
 Strong team spirit, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment;
 Excellent analytical skills, observation and analysis capacity;
 Attention to detail and structured way of approaching tasks;
 Ability to plan ahead and output oriented;
 Practical and problem-solver;
 Able to ensure quick quality delivery in stressful environment and with heavy work pressure;
 Ability to adhere to deadlines and respect line management;
 Very strong interpersonal skills: strong communication and diplomatic skills;
