Team Lead - Magenta Consulting


Location: Based in Tripoli, Libya (Libyan nationals) or Tunis, Tunisia

Reporting Manager: Africa Regional Manager

Start date: 15 August 2021

Duration: 12 months, renewable based on funding and performance

MAGENTA is a leading Social and Behavioural Change (SBC) Research and Communications agency that specializes in understanding human decision-making processes in order to design communications solutions for positive change in fragile and development settings. We implement programmes across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, using the latest in behavioural science principles and a rigorous approach to research, strategy, campaign design and implementation.

Our client base includes UN agencies, INGOs, governments and the private sector. We aim to amplify the voices of local actors while bringing international expertise and methodological rigour. To do so, we partner with civil society, creative agencies, media and academics to design innovative, relevant and impactful solutions to some of the most challenging problems of our time. Whether we are aiming to shift parenting practices to improve children’s outcomes or to understand how social norms underpin corruption, we always go the extra mile to ensure we can create positive impact for some of the most underserved populations in the world.

MAGENTA’s Africa team works across five countries currently (Tunisia, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Tanzania). Projects include research, strategy development, SBC interventions implementation (including capacity building, tools development and communications campaigns), and evaluation.

We are looking for an exceptional Team Lead, driven by a keen desire to deliver social impact and who thrive in fast-paced environment, to lead the design and development of interventions to support the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in Libya.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Team Lead will be responsible for the design and implementation of a research, community engagement and communications intervention in Libya, working closely with MAGENTA’S Africa Regional Manager and Research Manager.

  • Work planning and management
  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date detailed workplan for the programme
  • Lead on programme design, including theory of change, activity design, M&E frameworks, resources plans and financial plans
  • Management of project budgets, deliverables, KPIs and project reviews and ultimate responsibility for ensure delivery against contractual requirements, ensuring they are on time, to budget and deliver strategically;
  • Building and leading project team, including research and creative teams;
  • Overseeing the coordination of project partners e.g. consultants, media, civil society;
  • Management of project logistics and administrative tasks, including costs tracking, archiving documents.
  • Implement on time and to the highest quality standards
  • Identify and address challenges in a timely and constructive manner
  • Conduct weekly team meetings and provide regular updates to client and partners
  • Act as the main focal point for the client and partners
  • Set vision for the programme and motivates team members, including partners and vendors
  • Write insightful technical reports, programme presentations and programme updates

 

  • Formative research
  • Lead the design and implementation of a nationally representative formative research to inform the design of the programme, with the support and technical guidance of MAGENTA’s Research Manager
  • Strategically consider the objectives of analysis exercise, including research questions, and plan the analysis accordingly, including which sources to consult, to add maximum value to the programme/research
  • Conduct thorough literature reviews on a variety of topics to inform the design of research studies and programmes
  • Oversee data collection and implement quality assurance checks
  • Conduct analysis of primary and secondary data (qualitative and quantitative) to support programme implementation using relevant tools
  • Conduct stakeholder consultations with subject matter experts, key informants, academics, etc. to inform situation analyses
  • Provide recommendations in an actionable manner to inform programme design

 

  • Participatory roadmap development process
  • Plan for insights-driven and engaging participatory workshops
  • Mobilise partners and stakeholders prior, during and after the workshop
  • Work closely with civil society organisations to engage and mobilise communities throughout Libya

 

  • Communications strategy development
  • Develop robust evidence-based communications strategy, in close collaboration with. MAGENTA’s SBCC specialists
  • Identify and liaise with creative partners in Libya

 

  • Capacity Building
  • Lead on the development of robust training curriculum, utilising andragogy techniques, to

REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES

  • Relevant degree from a top tier university required; Masters preferred
  • 6 to 8 years professional experience in the humanitarian sector, and at least 4 years of experience managing a multi-cultural and results-driven team;
  • Experience in designing and leading research strongly desired;
  • Robust understanding of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda;
  • Demonstrated experience of being able to set up and implement successful programmes in Libya; especially programmes involving community engagement/mobilisation and training;
  • Substantial knowledge of the international development and/or humanitarian system, institution and donors, and of compliance requirements;
  • Robust experience in designing, operationalizing, implementing and evaluation development interventions;
  • Ability to work effectively, respectfully and successfully with governments, clients, partners and other stakeholders in complex settings;
  • Demonstrated expertise in representation and negotiation resulting in securing significant new opportunities for MAGENTA;
  • Demonstrated desire for excellence and an ability to inspire others to attain professional excellence;
  • Technological fluency;
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic mandatory, fluency in French a strong asset;
  • Good sense of humour, personable and demonstrated ability to build networks;
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to get hands dirty;
  • Software fluency: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Office 365;
  • Desirable software fluency: social media analytics and/or data analysis software (Nvivo, SPSS for instance)

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Some long hours including evening and weekends to complete tasks or attend events
  • May involve working in regions that are remote and lack basic modern infrastructure
