Case Worker/Social worker - MSF-OCP-WESTCOAST PROJECT

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The Case worker works in the Protection Team under the supervision of the Protection Manager. The case worker is responsible for the provision of assistance to refugees and migrants in the context of MSF medical activities.  This includes the assessment of initial requests for assistance; identification of asylum seekers in need of registration with the UNHCR as well as other vulnerabilities and protection needs; monitoring and reporting on detention conditions and changes in the context of urban settings. The case worker also expected to collaborate with the Protection Manager in other tasks as delegated by the Protection Manager.

Accountabilities

  • Identify protection needs and vulnerabilities through protection assessment.
  • Respond to the beneficiary’s protection needs, according to the scope of the project, by giving

Direct protection support (country information, asylum system, access to available solutions)                                  refer to other social actors, to actively contribute to the improvement of their quality of living.

  • Follow up with beneficiaries to ensure that services were provided (visits, phone calls).
  • Participate in the creation of any material needed for the activities of the protection team.
  • Monitor and regularly update information on new arrivals, facility condition, and presence of other NGOs, to guarantee coordination of services provided.
  • Keep records, statistics, and files updated.
  • Weekly meeting with Protection Manager.
  • Participate in regular training about protection, and other project-related activities.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

  • Engage and develop trust/relationship with beneficiaries and other influential actors around them (community leaders, neighbors, other NGOs, etc.)
  • Provide information on the legal status, current situation, and options available, processes, and risks associated with them.
  • Identify individuals for a referral to IOM and UNHCR
  • Conduct initial rapid protection assessments
  • Support the Protection Manager in developing case plans that respond to needs to be addressed in assessments.
  • Regularly monitor open cases through visits or calls providing guidance, advice and emotional support, community mediation, and referrals.
  • Make referrals as necessary to other MSF teams, another service provider/agency, and doing follow up.
  • Participate in a case conference of complex cases if necessary.
  • Document case management process.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

 

EDUCATION:

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in law or an LLM is preferred, but other Masters’ degrees or equivalent experience in a related field are also acceptable.
EXPERIENCES:
  • At least two years of experience working in a mixed migration context.

LANGUAGE:

  • Fluent in English Written and speaking.
  • Fluency in Arabic is preferable.
  • French is an asset.
COMPETENCIES:
  • Ability to work under stress and to maintain calm under challenging circumstances Conscientious record-keeping of all actions taken regarding beneficiaries’ cases
  • A positive attitude and sensitive manner when dealing with beneficiaries, including a range of interviewing skills for dealing with a challenging interview scenario
