Senior Child Protection Facilitator- Tripoli - International Rescue Committee


BACKGROUND:                 

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a prominent international organization working in relief, rehabilitation, protection, post-conflict development, resettlement services and advocacy for those uprooted or affected by violent conflict and oppression.

 

Job Overview/Summary:

Under the direct supervision, leadership and guidance of the WPE Manager, the Senior Child Protection Facilitator will provide non-focused or unstructured psychosocial support activities and child protection recreational activities to children below 18 years in target communities and identified safe spaces. She/he will be responsible for leading guided children reactional activities in Tripoli. The Senior CP Recreational Facilitator will use child-centered in his/her approaches, share life-saving information and provide a safe environment for playing, socializing and learning according to established schedules and routines. He/she will keep accurate records of children daily attendance and will also receive technical support from the IRC WPE Manager.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Implementation of CP activities

  • Ensure timely and technically sound implementation of all Child recreational and educational activities.
  • In conjunction with the Child Protection Team Leader and Child Protection Assistants, develop child protection activities appropriate for the beneficiaries at the center.
  • Identify child beneficiaries in need of referrals to other partners; pass such information on the WPE Manager/Team Leader for follow up.
  • Facilitate age-appropriate activities, including PSS and educational activities.
  • Ensure that project activities develop and are implemented in line with IRCs mandate, policies, procedures and country strategy, including donors’ requirements, national and international rules and guidelines.
  • Accountability: Ensure members of the Child Protection Teams abide by the Code of Conduct, confidentiality, humanitarian principles, and international/organizational codes of practice.

 

Referral and coordination

  • Refer identified and suspected child protection cases to Child Protection Caseworkers
  • Answer questions from community members and parents about what activities for children are taking place in the community or identified spaces.
  • Attend child protection and other relevant trainings organized by the IRC
  • Participate and collaborate in other activities conducted by IRC staff in target communities or identified safe spaces.
  • Attend special information sessions planned for community members and parents as it relates to child protection

 

Data and reporting

  • Develop individual weekly activity implementation plans in coordination with the direct supervisor and help in setting schedules for daily/weekly activities for children.
  • Collect data on all child protection recreational activities organized and implemented and ensure that all relevant forms or tools are duly filled.
  • Take lead in the collection of all child protection recreational activity data and ensure timely entry of all individually collected field data into the relevant databases.
  • Maintain an accurate collection of attendance records for all CP activities implemented.
  • Take children’s attendance for each child protection related session.
  • Provide the supervisor with field activity reports, success stories and other kinds or required reports.
  • Report supply/material needs to the direct supervisor.
  • Carry out any other task as assigned by the direct supervisor.

 

 

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: Senior WPE Officer

 

Position directly supervises: Recreational Facilitator

 

Indirect Reporting: WPE Manager

 

Other Internal and/or external contacts:

Internal: WPE Officer, Protection Information Management Officer, WPE Officer, Community Engagement and Outreach Officer, Community Engagement and Outreach Assistant, Child Protection Caseworkers and WPE Case Workers, WPE Officer, Community Outreach Volunteers.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Technical diploma or degree in social work, education or any related academic qualification desired
  • Either experience in similar/related role or at least one-year work experience in implementing recreational activities and psychosocial activities with children.
  • Previous experience in teaching or assisting children, especially those below the age of 10 years old.
  • Demonstrated understanding of working with children and particularly vulnerable children.
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with team members.Capacity to work in small teams and flexibility to take on new tasks.
  • Positive, respectful attitude and collaborative approach to diversity.
  • Good social and communication skills.
  • Familiar or experience with creative methodologies.
  • Fluency in Arabic; written and spoken English is an added advantage

 

 

Working Environment:  The Child Protection Recreational Facilitator will be based in Tripoli, with frequent visits to targeted locations within Tripoli in order to implement CP psychosocial support and recreational activities in identified spaces/facilities and selected communities.
