Infection Control Nurse - International Medical Corps


Position Title: Infection Control Nurse.

Position Reports to: Medical Doctor Specialized Isolation.

Field Site: Tripoli.

Date Needed: ASAP.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

Tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assessment of the COVID-19 isolation unit in the targeted hospital for infection prevention and control (IPC) and healthcare waste management (HCWM) preparedness.
  • Improve the quality of IPC practices at COVID-19 isolation unit by conducting training supportive supervision and ensuring a check list to measure the IPC status of the facility, including appropriate refresher training according to the MOH, WHO and IMC IPC guidelines, mentoring and monitoring services, as well as participating in training and other activities for the smooth implementation of the COVID-19 care activities at the facility.
  • Act as a mentor nurse to MOH nurses, teaching them about proper ways of Infection Prevention Control measures and nursing care producers according to guidelines, SOPs and IPC protocols of MOH and WHO, providing feed backs, comments and insights regarding IPC measures.
  • Assess and report on the status of IPC at the facility and assist with the implementation of appropriate response measures.
  • Assist with the identification of an IPC focal person form the isolation unit and the establishment and strengthening of the IPC Committee, which will meet regularly to assess IPC issues and\ challenges at the facility.
  • Evaluate the resources needed for the IPC: staff including Cleaners and nurses as well as cleaning, disinfection supplies and PPEs, and ensuring accountability at facility level.
  • Provide clinical tutorials, short intensive nursing tutorials, Clinical lectures and on job practical short trainings to nurses and nurse assistants in the isolation unit.
  • Provide emergency medical services to beneficiaries when needed.
  • Assist in consultations with medical doctors if needed.
  • Conduct triage and initial patient assessments if needed.
  • Provide patients with correct information regarding his/her conditions.
  • Inform his/her supervisor of any needs for prompt action.
  • Provide weekly reports regarding beneficiaries visited.
  • Submit daily and weekly medicine consumption report.
  • Perform regular health education sessions for beneficiaries.
  • Attend scheduled program meetings This recruitment is contingent upon award funding.
  • Actively participate in activity planning.
  • Assist other program staff whenever needed.
  • Any other responsibility assigned by his/her supervisor.
  • Ensure patients confidentiality.

Qualifications:

  • Registered nurse, with experience in emergency medical and surgical cases and IPC.
  • At least 3 years’ clinical experience.
  • Diploma in IPC and experience in providing mentoring, clinical tutorials and on-job training is highly desirable.
  • Able to provide treatment and assistance to all individuals needing his/her care.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to work in resource limited settings, especially peripheral areas in Libya.
  • Able to provide feedback/reports regarding work -related activities.

Language Skills:

Able to speak in Arabic, English

Computer Skills:

  • Able to use basic operating systems like windows.
  • Able to use main office applications: Word, Excel and Power point.
  • Ability to manage Emails is required.
