Graphic Designer -Tripoli Or Benghazi - International Republican Institute (IRI)



Project Background:
The Libya Local Governance and Civil Society (LGCS)/Taqarib Project activity will support the foundation of a more unified Libyan state by prioritizing local-level activities that foster stability and accountable governance while reinforcing positive linkages among the national government, subnational government administration, and citizens. LGCS/Taqarib works to increase the Libyan Government’s ability to deliver essential services and promote stability. It seeks to help citizens engage in public dialogue, prioritize resources, and develop initiatives to hold government accountable. To achieve these goals, LGCS will center its activities around four objectives:

Strengthen the capacity of targeted municipal institutions to deliver services and be more responsive to citizen needs
Empower Libyan citizens, civil society organizations, private sector, and other stakeholders with the skills and capability to advocate for government institutions to deliver on their mandates.
Encourage coherence of national and subnational government policy, systems, and coordination through pilots advancing targeted policy reform. Strengthen national and subnational decentralization policies, systems, and, and coordination
Inform Programming through a robust learning and analysis agenda

Function of the Position:
The Graphic Designer will report to Taqarbi`s Communications Director. He/she will be responsible for creating design elements of Taqarib`s internal and external communications in print and digital media, including for social media, presentations, print publications, reports, infographics, and so on.
 
Roles and Responsibilities:

Design illustrations, info-graphics, and other materials to support project efforts; engage with project technical and support teams to brainstorm graphical approaches to communicating complex ideas and processes.
Trains relevant Taqarib team members in the creation and incorporation of superior graphics.
Applies design and data analysis techniques to organize the presentation of data in visually innovative ways in order to make it easier to understand, insightful, and actionable by end users.
Ensures graphics’ compliance with Taqarib`s branding guidelines.
Support Taqarib Objective Leads in incorporating graphics appropriately into their communication efforts, and to clarify concepts to inform decision makers.
Participates in various assigned projects, including those led by Taqarib beneficiaries.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

Superior portfolio of prior work submitted as part of the application.
Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of relevant professional experience, or a master’s degree plus 2 years of relevant professional experience.
Outstanding aesthetic sense combined with experience applying visual design skills to serve business communication objectives.
Technical fluency across the design toolkit and ability to learn new tools, systems, and approaches.
Demonstrated experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., InDesign, Illustrator).
Meticulous attention to detail.
Comfortable working under fixed deadline pressure in a fast-tempo environment.
Ability to translate complex concepts, data, and text inputs into appealing, complementary visual content.
Equally adept at working collaboratively with team-mates—at all levels of the business—and in a self-directed setting.
Oral and written fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience and expertise in both digital and print design strongly preferred
Superior skills across the spectrum of design software, including the following programs or a functional equivalent: SVG, Canvas, CSS 3, JS, D3, Sketch, WebFonts, HTML 5. Facility with Final Cut Pro.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint.
High degree of literacy and numeracy; experience proofreading.
Knowledge of international development.
Experience applying and maintaining corporate style guides.
