Background
 
NRC has been operating in Libya since 2018 with offices in Tripoli and Benghazi. NRC is providing assistance to Libyan IDPs, returnees and host communities in Benghazi and Tripoli with potential expansion to adjacent districts. NRC Libya is working to deliver variety of programming across the following sectors: Shelter, WASH, and Education. In the course of 2019 options for expanding programming to support the migrant and refuge population will be developed.
 
 
Key Job Tasks and Responsibilities:
Generic responsibilities

Prevent and report unauthorized access.
Remain at your post unless relieved or threatened by serious, imminent danger
Immediately alert the security officer of any security incidents.
Notify the security officer of any threat or intrusion attempt to office
Maintain all equipment related to the guards in a serviceable state and immediately report any faults, damage or unserviceability to the security officer
Not be under influence by drugs, alcohol or other substances that may impair or affect judgment or behaviour.
Immediately respond as per NRC SOPs in the event of a medical emergency
Immediately relay information to relevant parties involved in emergency actions as specified in SOPs
Avoid any conflict with authorities and staff.
Report broken or not fully functional equipment such as gate, fences, barbed wires, water leaks, electrical damage wires etc.
Report any kind of suspicious action taking place on or around the compound

 
Specific responsibilities

Log all visitors and movement in and out of your site
Discourage and prevent any parking or other blocking of entry / exit points.
Monitor and operate generators, and report any problem or issue related to generators and their operation.
Shut down all interior lights in office after last staff member left
Ensure exterior lights are turned on before nightfall
Make sure all doors and gates are locked after departure of staff members
Report any damage related to electricity or water leaks inside and outside office
Check to ensure all access points are locked at least twice per shift
Make sure no cars are parked directly outside guest house or office
Log all own patrolling inside and outside office
Hand over log book and key to office to next guard or duty driver after shift finished
Demonstrate competency in the use of a VHF radio

 
 
Ideal Candidate Profile:

Experience from working as a guard in a humanitarian context
Fluency in Arabic
Knowledge of local security context
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience: 

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
English is an advantage.
Load lifting ability up to 30 KG.
High moral-ethical character

 
Additional Information:
 
Contract Period: 6 months
Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s salary scale and terms and conditions
Duty Station: Benghazi, Libya
