Internships with National Democratic Institute - NDI-Libya

Job Description for NDI Interns

This is a full-time, temporary position based in Tripoli, Libya.  After a one-month probationary period, the contract is valid for three months, with potential renewal for an additional three months pending a positive evaluation. NDI Interns will report to their respective Program Manager. Please note that these positions are for a maximum of six (6) months and there should not be an expectation of full-time employment after the end of the internship.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical and programmatic assistance to NDI-Libya’s citizen participation programs;
  • Liaises with other program, finance and operations staff to keep activities and programs running smoothly;
  • Attends and evaluates partner events when possible;
  • Prepares logistics for trainings and events;
  • Participates in programmatic meetings;
  • Translates, drafts and edits documents as needed;
  • Handles correspondence related to program activities;
  • Serves as a point of contact between NDI and participants, civil society organizations, and other actors across Libya;
  • Collects and synthesizes information, objectives, practices and procedures related to NDI-Libya’s programs and partners;
  • Provides a full, proper and timely accounting of all funds entrusted to his/her responsibility;
  • Coordinates internal and external meeting arrangements; and
  • Contributes to the monitoring and evaluation of programs;
  • Any other tasks as designated by supervisor.

 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • English language skills required, both written and oral;
  • Knowledge and interest in civic participation and Libyan politics;
  • Advanced interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of staff and partners;
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions;
  • Ability to effectively articulate mission statements and program/project initiatives;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines; and
  • Ability to apply discretion and maintain confidential information.
