NURSE AIDE based in Misrata – LIBYA

MSF has been in Libya since 2011 and is carrying out activities for migrants in Misrata.
Workplace: Misrata, Libya and surrounding communities.
 
It is a full time position.
 








Main purpose




Assisting in the nursing activities, according to doctor’s prescription, universal hygiene standards and MSF protocols, standards and procedures in order to ensure the delivery of quality medical care for patients




 




Accountabilities




 
·        Assisting the nurse in organizing and providing care and treatments to patients, respecting at all times, the rules of hygiene, safety, comfort, dignity, medical secret and patient confidentiality.
·        Giving response to nurse’s requirements in case of an emergency
·        Participating in the surveillance and monitoring of the patient and reporting to the nurse/doctor any relevant information.
·        Compensating patients’ possible lack of autonomy by assisting and helping them in feeding, personal hygiene, movements and general comfort.
·        Participating in the monitoring of nursing activities (correctly fill in patient files, etc.) and ensuring a relevant transfer of information between duty teams.
·        Reporting any problem arising in the care unit especially the loss, robbery or damage of equipment or medicines.
·        Ensuring cleanliness of his/her working environment (including facilities, material, linen, equipment, and carrying out the sorting and disposal of waste)
·        Participating actively in the hospital platform (meetings, committee,.), trainings and in the basic health education sessions
·        Participating in any other related activities as requested by the line manager
·        Performing minor maintenance and cleaning of the biomedical equipment following user manual and protocols. Alerting the supervisor in case of malfunctioning of any device.
 





MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities




 
·            Welcome the patient to the TB Unit on admission and help install the patient properly in the room. Give information about the daily routines and hygiene measures. Hand out personal hygiene kits.
·            Assisting the nurses and doctors with patient care in the TB Unit, according to MSF protocols standards and procedures.
·            Assist the nurses with proper record keeping and data collection by filling out the patient register/admission book, patient files and tally sheets.
·            Perform routinely vital signs of the patients according to doctor’s prescriptions and report to nurse/doctor if any abnormalities are observed. Immediately report any signs of deterioration of the patient’s condition.
·            Support the patients with upholding personal hygiene, changing of linen and cleanliness of the patient room.
·            Assist bedridden patients with mobilization in a safe, respectful and comfortable manner.
·            Ensuring proper nutrition for the patients by distributing meals, assisting the patients with feeding if needed and monitoring sufficient intake by the patient.
·            Deliver questions/concerns from the patients to the attention of the nurse if needed.
·            Ensure proper maintenance/cleaning of medical and biomedical equipment.
·            Ensure good Infection control, by distributing masks to patients and visitors and perform health education relating to cough etiquette and general hygiene practices.
·            Ensure cleanliness of the working environment as well as proper waste segregation and disposal accordingly.





Requirements:









Education


Nurse-aide diploma required




Experience


1 year




Languages


Fluency in Arabic is mandatory.
English and French are an asset





Other


Legal capacity to work in Libya.
