ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/SCOPE OF WORK

Childminder will look after the children whose mother attend the activities in WGSS, facilitate recreational activities supporting physical, social, and mental development of the children. This position reports to WGSS Site Officer.
The duties and  responsibilities of this position are as follows :
· Plan, provide and facilitate play-based age appropriate recreational activities that stimulate and support children’s intellectual, physical, social, emotional and language development;
· Collaborate with IMC’s health team to organize child-friendly age appropriate health and hygiene awareness sessions with children;
· Provide refreshments in healthy and hygienic manners;
· Ensure safe and child-friendly environment by assessing the center – check if the equipment is well maintained, age appropriate and safe to use in the nursing area
· Ensure good hygiene standards are maintained in the nursing area,
· Register the children, their special needs, and their mothers/ care-givers, and make sure the mother/care giver signs in when dropping the child in the nursing area and signs out when picking the child up from the area.
· Ensure the mother/care giver signs a consent form when leaving the child in the nursing area
· Keep the mothers/ care-givers updated about activity schedules and contents
· Monitor the needs and care of children attending the nursing area;
· Report and refer any children at risk, if identified, to the Site Officer in a confidential and safe manner – always adhere the best interest of the child.
· Build and maintain positive and professional relationships with mothers/care-givers and toddlers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
· Professional diploma or university degree in psychology, pedagogy, early childhood education, or similar field;
· Minimum of 6 months to 1-year experience working with children in similar position, preferably in emergency or post emergency setting;
· Basic IT knowledge (Microsoft Office, Internet);
· Previous experience with an NGO is desirable;
· Knowledge of key child protection issues and best practices;
· Observant and able to manage a group of up to 20 children at one time
· Must be able to employ position methods of interaction with children and prevent inappropriate negative discipline or abuse
