Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-religious international aid organization. Our teams are committed to supporting civilians’ victims of marginalization and exclusion, or hit by natural disasters, wars and economic collapses, by answering their fundamental needs. Our aim is to provide emergency relief to uprooted people in order to help them recover their dignity and regain self-sufficiency. The association leads, on average, 190 projects each year in the following sectors of intervention: food security, health, nutrition, construction and rehabilitation of infrastructures, water, sanitation, hygiene and economic recovery. PUI is providing assistance to around 5 million people in 21 countries – in Africa, Asia, Middle East, Eastern Europe and France. In East Libya, PUI provides healthcare to vulnerable populations in Greater Benghazi.
 
PUI is launching a health intervention in East Libya aiming at improving access to quality healthcare for migrants within detention centres.
 
Overall objective:
To facilitate accurate, respectful, fluent and confidential communication between staff and migrants in detention centers, in order to facilitate medical and psychosocial support activities.
 
Tasks and Responsibilities
• Verbal interpretation between PUI staff and migrants in detention centres, in person or remotely during medical activities (consultations, interviews, meetings, psychosocial support sessions….) from the mission language (Arabic) to foreign languages or vice versa
• Ensure the confidentiality of medical and other sensitive information
• Ensure that the safety and dignity of migrants is protected whilst translating
• At times, may assist with other translation tasks as required including written translation of documents from Arabic to English or vice versa.

In General, the Collaborator has to remain flexible and perform any other duties as required for the good running of operations, this may at times include assisting with translation of bureaucratic documents
 
NB: This job description may be subject to modifications in the future, depending on the evolution of the activities. These modifications will then be defined and discussed between the Collaborator and PUI
 
Required Profile
EDUCATION / TRAINING
No formal education necessary, fluency in languages being the main skill
 
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
 Prior experience of working within a team.
 
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
 Knowledge of and interest in the status of illegal migrants within Libya. Empathy and understanding of different cultures.
