CONTEXT

In Libya, in addition of its actual projects, HI is starting a three year project entitled “Action for Mental Health Assistance in Libya” (AMAL), as part of wider initiatives to improve the access and quality of health care services in Libya. The activities will take place in Tripoli, Benghazi and Misrata. The specific objectives of the project are:
• psychosocial distress, mental health and substance abuse in Libya is reduced
• expanded access, availability and acceptability to quality psychosocial support and mental health care
• training and upskilling of Libyan mental health staff
• greater awareness about the risks and manifestations of mental illness and substance abuse amongst at-risk groups.
To better understand the situation of people with mental health disorders, HI will carry a survey on the perception of mental health disorders in Libya. The survey will be carried out by an international expert who will provide a in depth training in qualitative research to the data collectors in Tunis and supervise them in their field work in Tripoli, Misrata and Benghazi

REQUIREMENTS
– Last year or newly graduated students in psychology or social sciences
– Interested in research methodology: 3 days training in Tunis + 5 days data collection in the field
– Good interpersonal and communication skills including with people with mental health disorders
– Good writing skills
– Fluent in Arabic, English would be an asset
– Previous experience or formal training in qualitative research would be an asset
– Available in July
– Ready to come for training in Tunis for 3 days training
– Cost of travel, accommodation and perdiem in Tunis covered by HI for the trainee (if the trainee need to be accompanied, HI will not cover the costs for the companion)
