Who are we?

Danish refugee council has been operating in Libya and Tunisia since 2011 focusing on protection of the displaced and conflict affected population. These include refugees, asylum seekers and economic migrants in Tripoli area and in the south west of the country, the population in and around Sirte affected by unexploded ordnance (UXOs) and to an increasing extent on the legal and illegal migrants and stateless populations in Libya. DRC/DDG has its head office in Tripoli and a field office in Sabha. Sabha is located 800 km south of Tripoli and is a central transit point for migrants and is home to large numbers of minority groups and stateless populations.



About the job

DDG aims to recruit a highly qualified professional, within organization operating in Libya, with very good knowledge of humanitarian mine action processes. The purpose of this role is to conduct coordination of humanitarian mine action field activities and the national operation teams assigned to conduct duties in accordance with International & National Mine Action Standards and DDG Standard Operation Procedures.

DDG is the mine action unit under DRC operation in a context where security and funding conditions may be unstable. The employee is informed of and accepts that the contract may be terminated by the organization in the event of force majeure and/or in the event of insufficient funding. However, any termination of contract will always be in accordance with the periods of notice stated in the DRC terms of employment for performing national tasks.

The BAC searcher is responsible to safely search as trained for Explosive Remnants of War, Unexploded Ordnance related to mine action in the Libyan context to fully support DDG’s mine action operations. BAC searcher shall search for UXO exactly as instructed by Technical Advisor and Operations Manager, who will lead and supervise directly in the field in Benghazi clearance sites.



Responsibilities:

Carry on visual and instrument assisted search in accordance with DDG SOP and instructions of a TA.
Establish safe protective works in the clearance sites, transportation vehicles and central demolition site.
Carry by hand identified safe to transport UXO from the transportation vehicles and stack inside demolition pits.
Assisting in analyzing gathered information, and where necessary dissemination of information.
Ensuring that he follows exact instruction by TA and OM who will deliver fully brief and debrief to the BAC searcher.
Cooperating and coordinating closely with TA and OM.
Ensuring that he will not secretly hide any ammunition, explosives and explosive materials.
Conducting search of ERW in safe and secure way.
Responsible for own and other staff safety.
On daily bases reports fully to assigned Technical Advisor.
Any and all other duties as directed by the TA or OM.
Communication and reporting:

He is expected to stay at the respective field operation with frequent travel to and from.
He is expected to be on time at field working area.
The job of BAC searcher will often involve no standard set working hours, expected to work longer if required.
He is expected to pass the field and written exam upon received training.


About you

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

Prior knowledge of Humanitarian Mine Action
National staff member, knowledge of English language is an asset
Prior knowledge of ERW recognition
Knowledge of Mines and UXO encountered in Libya, basic understanding of military operations
Knowledge of clearance and support equipment utilized in DDG’s operations is an asset
Driving license
Team-player who accepts DDG’s lines of management and is able to command authority himself
Well organized, proactive, flexible and trustworthy.
Physically fit


Required

High school qualification is a must
Higher education certificate is advantage
Languages: (indicate fluency level)

Fluency in speaking, reading and writing of English language is desirable.
